Enjoying the Holidays Responsibly
The party season is upon us once again. SHPD wishes everyone the best for a happy, healthy, and safe holiday. The following suggestions can help ensure everyone enjoys this season safely and responsibly.
Party-Goers
- For your safety, and the safety of all others, please avoid drinking and driving.
- Appoint a designated driver prior to attending a party.
- If you do choose to drink then have something to eat before you drink.
- Space your drinks at least one hour apart.
- Alternate alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic drinks during the evening.
- If you've had too much to drink DO NOT drive. Ask for a ride, call for a taxi, take public transportation, or, if possible, spend the night where you are.
- Coffee and other caffeine drinks will not make you sober! You will only be sober once your liver has had enough time to eliminate the toxins from your bloodstream. There is no way to speed up the process.
Party Hosts
- Even though you may not be driving limit the amount you drink so that you can keep an eye on others.
- Encourage guests to appoint a designated driver.
- Offer a variety of non-alcoholic drinks.
- Serve food and encourage everyone to eat before they drink.
- Stop serving alcohol at least one hour before the end of the party.
- If anyone has had too much to drink call a taxi for them or offer them a place to stay for the evening.
Please act responsibly. The life you save may be your own or that of a loved one!
