A Notice from the OEM: 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season

Be Ready: 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season Predicted to Be Active

As the Atlantic hurricane season approaches, residents of South Hackensack should take note:

2025 is shaping up to be an active and potentially dangerous season. AccuWeather is predicting 13 to 18 named storms, including 7 to 10 hurricanes, and up to 5 major hurricanes — with severalpotentially making landfall in the U.S. Experts warn that storms may rapidly strengthen before landfall, fueled by unusually warm ocean waters in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico. This means hurricanes can become more intense, faster — giving communities less time to respond.

While South Hackensack is not a coastal town, we are not immune to the impacts of tropical systems. Past storms have brought heavy rain, flooding, power outages, and even tornadoes far inland. Here’s what you should know:

• The season officially starts June 1 and runs through November 30, with the peak around September 10.

• This year’s conditions are similar to 2024, which saw devastating storms across the U.S.

• Rapid intensification of storms may limit warning times — so early preparedness is critical.

• Forecasts show an increased risk of landfalls along the Gulf Coast and the Carolinas, but impacts can extend hundreds ofmiles inland, including into New Jersey.
